Childpeace Staff

Childpeace Montessori School attracts some of the most talented and dedicated people from all over the country. Our staff come from a wide variety of backgrounds and they bring a diverse range of skills and expertise to our community.

James Moudry
Head of School

James holds a BA from the University of Minnesota, a M.Ed. from Loyola College in Maryland and is AMI trained 3-6 from the Montessori Center of Minnesota. He grew up in Minnesota and has lived in Washington, Ohio and Texas. He moved to Portland in 2020. James has worked in Montessori schools since 1997 as a teacher, division leader and athletic coach. He served on the founding board of trustees of a Montessori charter school and has helped to start three Montessori high school programs. He is excited to get to know the community of faculty, staff and families at Childpeace. In his free time, he enjoys designing, woodworking, travel and time at the beach.


Rose Rodgers
Assistant Head of School for Operations

Rose joined the Childpeace staff in 2000 with an interest in education that was fostered by time spent as a writing tutor and assisting with children's art classes. She has a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College and a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit and Public Management from Portland State University. She manages the billing, accounting and HR responsibilities for the school.





Amanda Donigan Gibbs
Program Director for Toddler Community/Children's House/The Terrace

Amanda graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin, TX with a degree in Communication. She worked at Childpeace as the Willow room assistant for three years before completing the Montessori training at Montessori Northwest in Portland and her Master's in Education from Loyola University. She returned to us in 2015 to be guide of the Sage Clubroom. In her free time, she enjoys reading and being outdoors with her dog.


Regina Feldman
Program Director for Middle School

Regina joined the Metro team in 2019. She was born and grew up in a small town in the Austrian Alps. Regina holds an MA in Medical Anthropology, a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology, and she completed the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescent Studies in 2008. After teaching college and working as an editor, Regina served as a humanities guide in Montessori high schools and middle schools in Cleveland, Ohio and taught in an international program in Beijing, China. She enjoys cooking, yoga, traveling, hiking and camping with her family.


April Slabosheski
Community Coordinator

April holds a B.S in Community Education & Engagement from the University of Wisconsin, Milwakee and an M.A Judaic Studies from the University of Michigan. She is originally from Wisconsin and moved to Portland in 2014. April has worked at the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocost Education coordinating volunteer educators, museum docents and Holocost survivor guest speakers. She also worked at Oregon Humanities doing a variety of programs expanding and deepening community. April is excited to learn more about Montessori and to meet the Childpeace community. She loves biking, reading poetry, going for long walks and learning how to cook new things.


Nicole Banta
Advancement Director

Nicole graduated with a Master of Public Administration specializing in Nonprofit Management from Portland State University and a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Oregon. She joined Childpeace in 2018. Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, hiking throughout the pacific northwest and exploring Portland with her three young boys.





Brittany Brazell
HR Coordinator

Brittany holds a Bachelor's in Psychology from Sonoma State University with a focus on Child and Adolescent Studies. She grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Northern California wine country right after high school. She lived in Sonoma County for over 10 years and loved living around the beautiful grass covered rolling hills and vast vineyards. Wanting to experience life in a bigger city and take advantage of the amenities that come with it, Brittany moved to Portland in 2016. Portland has proved to be a great combination of city and neighborhood with access to so many outdoor adventures! She is excited to join the Childpeace Montessori community to support all of the individuals that support the growth and development of the students. Most of her free time is spent eating her way through Portland and exploring the natural beauty of Oregon.


Ellen France
Accounting Specialist

Ellen grew up in the Chicago area and has an accounting degree from the University of Illinois. She lived in the Bay Area for 15 years and has called Portland home since 1995. She has held various accounting positions in public accounting, high tech, hospitality, non-profit and education. Ellen is a volunteer SMART reader with hearing impaired children. She has two grown daughters and spends her free time cycling, practicing yoga, baking and vacationing with her husband on their tandem bicycle.





Jenny Siebenaler
Bookkeeping/Morning Receptionist

Jenny moved back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest after over a decade spent living in other parts of the country. She joined Childpeace upon her return in 2014.






Linda Pownall
Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

Linda is mostly an Oregon native, growing up on family farms in Yamhill County, moving to Portland for college, then making her home here. She held jobs in various fields, but primarily spent 1984 to 2017 in opera & musical theatre, filling a myriad of Stage Management & technical, office & box office, and child management roles for Portland Opera/Broadway in Portland, Northwest Children's Theater & School, and Portland Civic Theatre, among others. But she also long had the goal of being a part of the academic realm, so she was thrilled for the opportunity to join Childpeace in January of 2018, and has been happy to be here ever since!


Dr. Elizabeth Schwarz
School Psychologist

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Child Development and Family Relationships and then taught preschool for two years before returning to complete a doctorate degree in Educational Psychology. Elizabeth has been a Licensed Psychologist in Oregon since 2005. Before working for Childpeace, she worked in community mental health and private practice and spent time at home with her two young children.


Bryan Sakamoto

Bryan has worked at Childpeace since 2010. He enjoys cooking, photography and design.






Adrienne Farrow
Education Technology Specialist

Adrienne holds a BA in International Studies from Seattle University and a MAT from University of Portland and has completed the Introduction to Montessori Course (Montessori NW) and Adolescent Introductory Workshop (Train Montessori). She was born and raised in Portland and attended Franciscan Montessori Earth School in their Children's House. Her husband is also a Portland native and they met when they were 5 in Kindergarten. Adrienne has been a teacher K-12 in both general education and special education for 9 years. After becoming a Google Trainer in June 2020, she was looking for an opportunity to support teachers in Educational Technology. She is looking forward to supporting Guides in feeling confident about technology during distance learning and exploring more how technology and Montessori can intersect. She enjoys spending time with her husband, her 4 year old daughter, and her two dogs. She also enjoys cooking, baking and crafting. Her daughter also attends a local Montessori School.

Facilities & Security Manager

Along with working at Childpeace, Curtis loves being with his family and pianos.










Caspar Sonnet
Facilities & Security Assistant

Caspar is a very active experimental musician who enjoys Sumi ink wash painting, running a music label, curating shows and spending time with his lovely wife Dehlia and fluffy black cat Bob.



Albert McDonnell
Kitchen Manager

Albert came to Oregon in 2009 after living in Alaska for 25 years. He spends part of each year in Juneau fishing commercially for salmon on his gillnetter the Grey Seas. He is also a lifetime musician specializing in upright bass. His group Arabesque performs every Wednesday night at Hoda's on SE Belmont providing music for bellydance performers. His wife Maren is the Pine Room Guide and his daughter attends Childpeace.


Jennifer Rotter
Kitchen Assistant

Jennifer was born and raised in Portland, OR. Before joining Childpeace in 2016, she worked as a cook at Providence Child Center for Medically Fragile Children. She enjoys parenting her son Conrad, camping, hiking, photography and painting.


Brian Erksa
Substitute Specialist

Brian holds a BA in English from the University of Virginia. He was born and raised in Virginia and relocated to Portland from the Virgin Islands 14 years ago. Prior to Childpeace he worked for Multnomah Education Service District in an elementary classroom at Wheatley School, and he spent the summer working for a day camp. He also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in their Fun Junction program through Neighborhood Nanny. Brian loved his experience with Childpeace as a family friend of a student in the community and he is looking forward to learning more about it! He is a single father of two girls and loves spending whatever time he can exploring the world with them. Brian is also a graduate student at PSU and he enjoys exercising whenever he gets the chance.


Kalin Honaker
Substitute Specialist

Kalin is from Virginia, and she moved to Portland four years ago after traveling for several years with Missoula Children's Theatre. She got to see a lot of the country, and decided she would move to Portland when she was finished touring because she enjoyed being here on tour. Kalin holds a B.A. in Musical Theatre from Emory & Henry College in Virginia. She has worked with children in theatre as a teaching artist with several children's theatre companies, and she enjoyed watching children grow and learn. Upon moving to Portland, Kalin was an educational assistant at a school for non-verbal children affected by autism, and she was there for about 3 years. Her favorite part of working with children in each of these roles has been seeing the different ways they learn, meeting them with curiosity, and encouraging creativity and independence. She is very excited to be starting her Montessori journey with Childpeace! She is excited about the friendly and supportive staff, the space they hold for the children to grow in the ways that work best for them individually, and the opportunity to learn more about how to support that independent growth. She enjoys making music, performing theatre, practicing yoga and dance, hiking, crafting and making art, and spending time with her cat Skooma.

Jennifer Lyons
Laurel Room Guide

Jennifer has worked at Childpeace since 1993. After completing her Assistants to Infancy training in August of 1998, Jennifer became a TC Guide. She is devoted to children’s causes and is a court appointed child advocate.


Amalia Juan
Laurel Room Assistant & TC EMC

Amalia has been working with children for a little over 3 years. Previous employment was at Providence Wee Care, she has 2 boys of her own, 2 1/2 yrs and 11 years. She enjoys staying home cleaning her house and just trying keep up with everyday life of being a mom.


Analyn Nguyen
Oak Room Guide

Lynn completed her AMI Assistants to Infancy certification in August 2002. She has been with the Toddler Community at Childpeace since 1997, working as an assistant and, since 2001, as the afternoon supervisor as well. She is originally from the Philippines and is bilingual. Lynn lives in Portland with her husband and her son Jonathan, born in 2005.


Tyne Ritenour
Oak Room Assistant

In 2005 Tyne graduated from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor's degree in history. She obtained her first teaching position at Escuela del Sol Montessori in Albuquerque where she worked for four years in various roles before moving to Oahu, Hawaii with her husband and two children, Porter who is now 13 and Mason who is now 11. She worked as an assistant in the Toddler community on Oahu at Hoaloha Kai Montessori for three years. After the school closed, she went to Montessori Northwest for her A to I training in 2014 and graduated the following summer. She and her family relocated to Portland in 2015 and they just love it! For the past three years she was employed at Sunstone Montessori as an Assistant Guide with the Toddlers. She am an avid knitter and a plant lover with 3 cats and many fish.


Maggie Donaldson
TC Afternoon Supervisor

Maggie is a proud Portlander, born and raised. She holds a BS in Human Studies from Marylhurst University, is AMS Infant/Toddler trained from MEIPN and AMI Primary trained from MNW. She has nannied in and around Portland and has worked as a Toddler and Primary guide at a couple local Montessori schools. She appreciates the committed families and staff, strong sense of community and professional atmosphere that respects and implements the Montessori philosophy at all levels at Childpeace. Maggie likes to spend time her time with her family, traveling, crafting and cooking.

Stephanie Wiant
Maple Room Guide

Stephanie has enjoyed being part of the Childpeace community since 2003 as a parent and a CH guide. She is mother to three amazing Childpeace alumni who experienced the toddler community all the way to Metro Montessori Middle school. Stephanie grew up in Pittsburgh and received her Bachelors degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was an Interdisciplinary Studies major with a focus in Psychology, Education and Creative Writing. She holds an AMI Diploma from Montessori Northwest, and a Master’s of Education in Montessori from Loyola College. Most recently she received a certificate for Montessori Inclusion. In her free time she enjoys podcasts, reading, cooking, hiking and camping in the beautiful Northwest.


Wendi Taylor
Maple Room Assistant

Wendi was born and raised in Portland and graduated from Portland State University with a B.A. in English Literature. Since coming to Childpeace in 1992, she has worked in many different capacities. In addition to her work with children, she has renovated many houses and owned and operated a furniture store. Her son Thomas graduated from the Children’s House at The Terrace and the Lower Elementary.





Maren Thomas
Pine Room Guide

Maren received her AMI Primary Diploma from the Montessori Institute Northwest in 2003 and her B.A. in Human Studies from Marylhurst University in 2004. After working in the Childpeace Club Rooms, she spent five years as a lead Guide at Juneau Montessori School in Juneau, AK before returning to join the Childpeace community in 2009.


Sadie Soliman 
Pine Room Assistant

Sadie graduated from Pacific Northwest College of Art with a Printmaking & Ceramics major. She has been in Portland for over 10 years, the longest she has lived anywhere! She is a transplant from Louisville Kentucky and West Palm Beach Florida. Sadie has worked as a school "floater" for The Emerson School (office/reception/classroom assisting) and an assistant for The Portland Montessori Collaborative (pdxMC). She enjoys painting, yoga, hiking, being at the river and spending time with her dog.


Anastasia Shulevitz 
Spruce Room Guide

Anastasia graduated from Lewis and Clark College, received a Primary Level AMI Diploma in 1995 and worked as a CH Guide at Childpeace from 1995 - 2000. She returned to Childpeace in 2008 as an assistant, and is the parent of three Childpeace students.


Susan Harris
Spruce Room Assistant

Susan holds a BA from Beloit College, in Beloit, Wisconsin. She is originally from Orono, Maine and she has lived in Portland since 1995. Susan discovered Montessori teaching at a school in Seattle where she worked for 3 years. She loves spending time with her family and friends, playing word games, and traveling when she can.



Venus Zaron 
Willow Room Guide

Venus was a Montessori child and has two children at Childpeace. She is from Austin, TX but the NW is her favorite of the places she has lived. Venus is trained at the Assistants to Infancy (The Montessori Institute) and Children's House (Ohio Montessori Training Institute) levels and has a Master's in Education. After some classroom experience elsewhere, she joined the staff of Childpeace in 2011. She loves ballet, Greece, cooking and celebrating holidays with her children, and studying human development and dance history.


Manamaya Peterson
Willow Room Assistant

Manamaya holds a BA in Linguistics from Reed College and is a Portland native. She graduated from Reed College with a degree in Linguistics with an allied field in Psychology, after that she spent a year as a linguistics research assistant at Reed. The research covered diversity and discrimination and child language development. In between the ending of that position and her new position at Childpeace in the Willow room, she spent her days listing Japanese antiques on Ebay. She has also spent the last year as a volunteer ESOL classroom assistant at Portland Community College. As a Childpeace alumna, Manamaya is excited to be back at Childpeace in a new way! She is eager to be both an observer of and partner in the development of the mental, physical, and emotional worlds of the children she will serve. Manamaya loves to sing and dance! Besides those, she loves to listen to music, play various instruments, learn languages, go hiking, play video games, do art, and write stories, poetry and songs. She also enjoys spending time with her parents, her pets and her friends. Additionally, she is always ready to pack her bags and go on an adventure, be it in her own backyard or across the globe!


Crystal Harris
Trillium Room Guide

Crystal joined the Childpeace community after gaining over 13 years of experience working in a variety of roles in Montessori settings, including as a primary guide. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies with a minor in applied linguistics from Portland State University and an AMI primary teaching credential from Montessori Northwest. Crystal is a native Oregonian, and lives with her husband Richard, her son Wylie, and two aging cats, Tuxedo and Otto, in Portland. They enjoy playing music, crafting and exploring the outdoors together. Crystal was drawn to Montessori education by its emphasis on building confidence and independence in young learners and she is honored to play a role in helping students flourish in an educational setting.


Chelsea Essing
Trillium Room Assistant

Chelsea graduated from the University of Iowa and moved to Portland in 2017. She has worked in food service/hotels/hospitality. She worked in an after school program that sparked her excitement for childcare. She is really excited about learning the intricacies of the Montessori style. Chelsea enjoys cooking, going on walks with her husband, Trytten, and wrestling her cat, Nymeria.





Becky Poulos  
Sage Room Guide

Becky assisted in a primary classroom for four years, before moving to Portland from Chicago in June 2018 to receive her AMI Primary Diploma at Montessori Northwest. She also holds a B.A. in Music Business Management from Columbia College. In her spare time, she enjoys playing guitar and sharing her love of music with children.


Stephanie Luke
Sage Room Assistant

Stephanie grew up mostly in Boise, Idaho (but also lived in Washington, Virginia and other rural small towns in Idaho) and moved to Portland in 2012. She has worked with children for most of her professional career in various ways. She has taught and/or assisted in Elementary classrooms, preschools and daycares in both Idaho and Oregon. For a few years Stephanie worked in an office, but she was always finding time to babysit, teach piano or something that allowed her to spend time with children in meaningful ways. She is so excited to be back working with children on a daily basis. Stephanie has never worked at a Montessori school prior to Childpeace, so she is excited to be learning all the ins and outs that go into making the school the exceptional place that it clearly is! You can find her doing all of the classic Pacific Northwestern activities, especially rock climbing, backpacking and hiking, but anything that gets her outdoors is a good time in her book. More recently, she has been able to grow a sizable vegetable garden, which has led to a whole host of activities including fermentation, drying, canning and lots of homegrown and home cooked meals.

Pam Bishop
Terrace Guide

Pam received her AMI Primary diploma in 2003 and guided a Children's House in West Linn for 3 years. She then completed her Master's in Education at Loyola College, and became the Guide of the Children's House at The Terrace in 2007. Her B.A. degree from Fordham University is in Art History and Studio Art.


Shanon Schollian
Terrace Assistant Guide & Intergenerational Liaison

Shanon graduated from Pacific Northwest College of Art with a BFA in sculpture. She began at Childpeace in 1995, working as an Assistant for the Terrace along with other roles in the community, and has returned after being home with her daughter Charlie. Shanon’s interests include art, sewing, gardening, canning, camping and playing with her daughter. She also teaches art and craft workshops for Multnomah County Libraries.


Sarah Rinzler
Terrace Assistant

Sarah became interested in Montessori while looking into preschools for her son, Judah. It wasn’t long before she was hooked on Montessori theory and began to realize how good it felt to put these ideas into practice with Judah. She honestly never knew that kids could be so independent and capable! She moved to Portland from Corvallis in 2013 to begin her teacher training at Montessori Northwest, which she followed up with my Master's degree from Loyola University. After her training she worked as an assistant at a local Montessori school for two years, then joined Childpeace in 2016. Outside of work, she is happiest being with Judah, her "colorful" group of PNW friends and her family in Connecticut when she can make the long haul.



Veena Sukumar
Juniper Room Guide

Veena is from Bangalore, India. She moved to the US in 1987 and to Portland in July of 2020. She holds a Masters from University Of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her grandparents started the first Montessori School in South India in 1942 with the blessings of Maria Montessori. Since then, several of her relatives have been associated with Montessori either as guides or as trainers. She has always worked in small Montessori schools in semi-rural settings. She thinks this is a wonderful opportunity to work in a Montessori school in an urban setting with a lot of diversity. Veena loves to cook, read and quilt. She loves to travel with her family.


Casey McGray
Juniper Room Assistant

Casey is a graduate of PSU, with a BA in Arts and Letters, and spent a year studying abroad in France. She enjoys exploring new places, local and abroad, and she hopes to travel to every continent at some point. She loves creating, either through crafting, baking, or writing. She grew up in the Columbia River Gorge and appreciates calling the PNW home.





Rachael Morris
Myrtle Room Guide

Rachael joined the Childpeace Community in 2016. She completed her AMI Elementary training at Montessori Northwest and completed her Masters in Education from Whitworth University. She graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Spanish. She loves to dance, play soccer, read and ride her bike.


Hannah Thiessen
Myrtle Room Assistant

Hannah was born and raised in Portland. She has had a couple service jobs in the past, but after spending two years as a nanny, she knew she wanted to continue working with children and an opportunity to work at Childpeace came up at the perfect moment. After spending the past three years in the elementary aftercare program, she is so excited to be working more full time with the students as the Myrtle room assistant. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, reading and finding new and different creative outlets.


Denise Dodge
Redwood Room Guide

Denise is a native of Washington State and joined our staff in 2014 after working as one of the founding Elementary Guides in a Nyon, Switzerland bilingual Montessori Elementary program. She holds a B.S. in Biology and prior to becoming a Montessori Elementary Guide, she spent 12 years in Hospital services coordinating blood and tissue donations. She has also worked in outdoor education with the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Reserve as an Estuary Education Interpreter and for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a Production manager for their EstuaryLive programs.


Sierra Enright
Redwood Room Assistant

Sierra moved to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College where she graduated with a degree in English and Psychology. She is originally from the Seattle area and has a deep love of reading, baking, hiking and kayaking.






Claire Bollinger
Birch Room Guide

Claire received her AMI elementary certification in Bergamo, Italy after assisting in other Montessori schools. She has a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah. She joined Childpeace in 2005.



Carly Waner
Birch Room Assistant

Carly is from Washington state and moved to Portland in July 2020. She spent a year teaching middle school art in Hollywood, California before moving to Portland. She holds a BA in Elementary Education, Psychology and Human Development from Western Washington University. Carly is very excited to continue learning about the Montessori experience. In her free time she loves spending time in the mountains hiking and swimming with her dogs. She also loves reading, working on creative projects, painting, writing and photography.


Stephanie Houston
Hawthorn Room Guide

Stephanie holds a BA from the Evergreen State College, in Olympia, Washington and an M.Ed. from Loyola in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born in Portland at a hospital on Mt. Tabor. She has lived in Oregon, Washington, Maryland, Egypt, Mali and traveled often.She has worked in public and private Montessori schools at both the Lower and Upper Elementary levels. She is excited by the engaged students, families and staff members at Childpeace. Stephanie enjoys hiking, biking, camping, travel, visiting the dog park, gardening and lots of baking and cooking.


Daniel Withers
Hawthorn Room Assistant

Daniel is a native to Tucson, Arizona where he received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Linguistics where he studied behavioral rule adherence and models of word recognition. Daniel worked for a number of years at Hermosa Montessori School in a variety of roles. He has recently moved to Oregon with his fiancée and has fallen in love with the Pacific Northwest. Besides his interests in pedagogy, Daniel is an avid reader, hiker and gardener.




Greg Lawrence
Larch Room Guide

Greg received a B.S. in Biology from Portland State University before completing his AMI elementary training at the Montessori Institute of San Diego in August 2002. He has a great deal of teaching experience, including time spent as an assistant and a Guide in local Montessori elementary schools. Greg joined Childpeace in 2002.



Josh Prewitt
Larch Room Assistant

Josh is the assistant in the Upper Elementary Larch Room. Josh joined Childpeace in 2002 and has worked in both Lower and Upper Elementary programs. He has an AMI Primary diploma from the Montessori Institute NW and a BA in music from Portland State University. Josh has toured and recorded professionally with several bands including the Five Fingers of Funk and Tezeta Band. Josh enjoys woodworking, blacksmithing, felting, all kinds of art and gardening.


Katie Westmoreland
Upper El Spanish Teacher

Katie joined Childpeace in 2006 after teaching Spanish for several years in a variety of independent schools throughout the Northwest. Here at Childpeace she has enjoyed creating and implementing the Spanish program used in the elementary classes. Katie graduated from Carleton College with a B.A. in Spanish literature and studied in Morelia, Mexico and Madrid, Spain. She also spent time on a fellowship studying cooking in the Spanish Basque country. In her free time, Katie enjoys gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with her husband, Chuck and daughter, Libby.

Aftercare Supervisor

An graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English Literature and History. He enjoys photography, reading, being married, and his young son Jonah and daughter Mae. An came to Childpeace in 1995.






Mercedes Brehmer-Bieker
PE Teacher

Mercedes is a Detroit, Michigan area native but has been calling Portland home since just after graduating from college. She has a long history with both kids and fitness. She has a BA in psychology from the University of Michigan (GO BLUE!!!), was AMI trained at the Primary level at MNW (and ran a her own school for 9 years) and has an M.Ed. from Loyola College in Baltimore. She is also certified as both a Personal Fitness Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor, and is experienced at teaching several formats including Zumba, U-Jam, WERQ (all dance fitness formats), POUND, PiYo, Insanity and Core de Force as well as strength training classes. She is a Master Trainer for WERQ dance fitness. She is also the mom of a HS freshman and a 4th grader, 2 crazy dogs and at last count, 4 fish. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading voraciously and making things. And she is super excited to get your kiddos moving!!

Regina joined the Metro team in 2019. She was born and grew up in a small town in the Austrian Alps. Regina holds an MA in Medical Anthropology, a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology, and she completed the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescent Studies in 2008. After teaching college and working as an editor, Regina served as a humanities guide in Montessori high schools and middle schools in Cleveland, Ohio and taught in an international program in Beijing, China. She enjoys cooking, yoga, traveling, hiking and camping with her family.


Jonathan Erickson
Metro Guide

Jon came to Metro Montessori in 2012 after taking the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescence. He holds a Masters in the Art of Teaching from the University of Alaska and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Montana. He has worked in public elementary, middle and high schools as a Math, Science and Forensics teacher, an Indian education counselor, a Native Youth Olympics coach, and in a behavioral needs classroom. He has studied abroad in New Zealand, and worked on a sailing catamaran and a goat farm in Hawaii. Jon and his wife Alli are parents of two Childpeace children. Jon is our middle school specialist in STEM-based work; he enjoys teaching physics of the bicycle, fisheries management and working in the greenspace.


Sara Adams
Metro Guide

Sara Joined the Metro Montessori team in 2014. She began her Montessori journey as a student teacher at The Grove School (a Montessori charter middle and high school) as she attended the University of Redlands for her BA and English Language Arts secondary teaching credential. She spent time working in primary classrooms as she earned her AMS Primary credential and an MA in Montessori Education from St. Mary’s College of California. She then returned to her favorite age, middle school, as an English Language Arts and Humanities guide at Metro. Some of her favorite learning cycles at MMM have been ethics, gender equity, creative nonfiction, National Novel-Writing Month, and archaeology. Sara’s hobbies include being in nature, drinking coffee, and puns.


Jimmy Whipps
Metro Guide

Jimmy came to Metro Montessori in 2009 and is a founding teacher of our middle school. Jimmy holds a BA in History from Portland State University and completed the NAMTA Orientation to Adolescence in 2008. He has been working with Montessori adolescents since 2004, and also spent five years assisting in Upper EL classes.






Chara Stamp
Metro Guide

Chara holds a BA from Tufts University and BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is originally from Providence, R.I. and has lived in Miami Beach, FL, Somerville, MA, Seattle, WA, Madison, WI, Pasadena, CA, and moved to Portland in August of 2020. After working as a high school art teacher in independent and public high schools, she came to Montessori when her son was a toddler, and she had the opportunity to work in a small AMI Montessori school that had just opened with a toddler room and children's house. She knew that adolescence was the developmental plane that was closest to her heart and in 2014, she attended the Orientation to Adolescent Studies at the Hershey Montessori Farm School and knew that this was the work she wanted to dedicate herself to. She and her family moved to Pasadena, California, and for five years, she developed and helped grow the adolescent program at an AMI Montessori school. She looks forward to moving into an era that places diversity, equity and inclusion at the forefront of the experiences of our children and is excited that Childpeace and Metro are committed to this work that will be the true embodiment of Montessori's education for peace. She loves riding her bike on urban trails, baking bread, learning to play the ukulele, looking at and making art, and spending time with her wife and son.


Jenny Edwards
Metro Math Teacher

Jenny was born and raised in Eugene, OR. She moved up to Portland in 2007 after graduating from the University of Oregon with her Masters in Education. She taught math at the Young Men's Academy at Jefferson High School and then at da Vinci Arts Middle School. Jenny had her first son and then a year later had her daughter, and went back to working at a childcare center so she could be with them throughout the day. She worked at a Montessori preschool, then ran an in-home daycare until they started school. She has spent the past three years teaching math at a local public Montessori charter school. Jenny had her second son in 2018, and he keeps her on her toes! She loves spending time with her husband and kids, going on adventures, swimming, hiking and working on projects around the house.







Heidi Skildum
Metro Spanish Teacher

Heidi holds a BA in Spanish and English Secondary Education from Luther College and will graduate with an MA in English Language Learner Instruction from Western Governors University in December 2020. She is from St. Paul, MN and moved to Oregon in 2018. She started to learn Spanish in 1999 and it has taken her to Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Spain and many more Spanish-speaking countries. Between college and beginning her teaching career, she worked on organic vegetable productions for four years and used her hands and heart while working for non-profits such as Holden Village, the WK Kellogg Food & Fitness Initiative and Pepperfield Project. She taught high school English, Spanish and Creative Writing. When she moved to Oregon, she was a fifth grade homeroom teacher at Arco Iris Spanish Immersion Charter School in Beaverton, OR. She is excited to be at Childpeace because she works with the best staff and most wonderful students. In her free time, Heidi enjoys running up and down mountains.
